GEORGIA JOINS THE INITIATIVE OF EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRY TRANSPARENCY
Manager General of the pipeline company Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan in Georgia Ed Johnson made a report on the course of construction, about settlement of all problems with the population, environmental safety, etc.
In his speech, President of the Georgian International Oil Corporation, Georgy Chanturia especially touched the issues related to the course of Baku-Tbilis-Ceyhan construction, and creation of a monitoring system over implementation of oil and gas pipeline projects. He announced about the initiative of the Big Seven states and British Prime Minister Tom Blaire on “transparency in the field of extractive industry” and said that a working group of the Georgian President had joined this imitative.
It should be reminded that Azerbaijan was the first to put forward the idea of transparency of extractive branches of industry in the region. Ilham Aliyev, making speech in London on the issue in June, 2003 stated on readiness of Baku to become a regional center for realization of this idea.
