Georgian parliamentarians briefed about Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis met with a visiting Georgian parliamentary delegation led by Shota Berekashvili, Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy, on June 20.
During the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that the relations between the two countries, rooted in traditions of friendship and brotherhood, have been elevated to the level of strategic partnership. She underscored the crucial role of reciprocal high-level visits in bolstering these relations.
The officials praised cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in international organizations, their constant mutual support for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and expressions of solidarity. They also highlighted successful bilateral collaboration in implementing major regional energy and transport projects.
Touching upon the bilateral interparliamentary relations, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined fruitful cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, including the active work of the friendship groups and the mutual support extended in international parliamentary institutions.
The meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing relations between the committees of both countries’ supreme legislative bodies. Additionally, the sides stressed the significance of the effective trilateral cooperation format between the foreign relations committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia.
Speaker Gafarova provided an update on the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, describing the current regional situation following Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and the restoration of its territorial integrity.
Expressing gratitude for the sincere meeting, Shota Berekashvili shared his impressions of the visit and underscored the importance of relations between the two countries, rooted in historical ties and now elevated to strategic partnership.
He noted that the development of bilateral relations contributes not only to regional security and stability but also serves the prosperity of both nations.
Shota Berekashvili also stressed the importance of further enhancing inter-parliamentary relations, strengthening cooperation between committees and friendship groups, and shared his thoughts on the prospects for future parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting also covered other issues of mutual concern.
