GERMANY TO PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO RELATIONS WITH CAUCASIAN NATIONS
Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel will reveal May 11 in the Bunderstag the major political priorities of the German presidency in the European Union for the first half of 2007, AZERTAG correspondent reports citing “Die Welt” newspaper. In this respect, the federal government will submit the official statement to the European Union.
During German EU presidency, Chancellor aims to settle two such crucial issues. First of all, she is going to make some things clear towards the ratification of the European constitution and achieve some progress in realizing the EU energy policy in the Caucasian region.
According to Angela Merkel, Caucasian region should be brought to the forefront and be in the spotlight of the EU new Eastern policy. She is expected to give detailed explanation in the Bunderstag as to the political, economic and humanitarian aspects of new relations between the European Union and Caucasian region countries, participation of the Caucasian nations in the EU neighborhood policy and contribution to this policy Germany will make during EU presidency.
