GUAM FOREIGN MINISTERS MEET IN NEW YORK
Baku, 26 September (AZERTAC). Foreign ministers of GUAM have convened in New York to stress the importance of strengthening political cooperation for ensuring security, peace and stability in the region.
Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has addressed the gathering to reiterate his country`s position on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
“No peace and security can be ensured in the region until the conflict finds its solution” Mammadyarov has said.
The Azeri FM has also called for expansion of cooperation among the GUAM member states, and stressed the importance of implementing “concrete joint projects”.
As part of his US visit Mammadyarov met foreign ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, and had a meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks.
Mammadyarov also met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss the Azerbaijan-US cooperation and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Clinton reiterated the US administration`s commitment to find a soonest possible solution to the dispute.
Energy cooperation between the two countries was also discussed, and Clinton emphasized Azerbaijan`s importance for the USA and praised the country`s role in terms of the world energy security.
