GUAM-POLAND MEETING HELD IN BAKU
The GUAM-Poland meeting was held at the President Palace in Baku, 18 June.
In his opening remarks, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed the bilateral consultations, greeting the Polish President Lech Kaczynski. “His participation at the Summit of GUAM gives special importance to the event”, President Aliyev said. “And, today we have to discuss in a new format of GUAM-Poland the questions which unite us, and are of mutual interest not only for our countries, but also in large context of regional cooperation”.
In whole, participation of the presidents of the EU member countries at the GUAM Summit is bright evidence to the interest to the Organization, its importance, establishment as a serious international structure, President of Azerbaijan stressed.
“We have recently in the same format met in Krakow and had comprehensive discussions. The agenda of Summit is wide. We have to focus large scale of questions in numerous fields - political relations, economic integration, the questions of interaction in transport and energy sphere, humanitarian cooperation”, the head of Azerbaijan State emphasized.
President of Poland Lech Kaczynski expressed deep gratitude for invitation to take part at the Summit of GUAM countries. He estimated the participation of Poland at such authoritative event as evidence to that great importance which his country, as well as the European Union gives to cooperation in the framework of GUAM.
In meeting, the parties had comprehensive exchange of views on cooperation in the GUAM-Poland format.
