In Yakutia build cryostorages for mammoths
Baku, April 17 (AZERTAC). Yakut paleontologists decided to implement an unusual project - unique for Cryo remains of mammoths, which can work with scientists around the world.
Yakutia very often find fragments of mammoths and even the whole, virtually undamaged carcasses - permafrost itself contributes to their conservation. Yakut feature climate and will form the basis conceived cryostorages.
To store the remains of mammoths, a temperature of - 18C, in some cases, and - 24C - said “KP” - Yakutsk” President of the Academy of Sciences Igor Kolodeznikov Yakutia. - Create for this purpose a large refrigerator would be very costly and not economically viable. After consulting with colleagues from the Institute of Permafrost, we created the semi-underground storage Insulated top. In winter the temperature it will be low due to natural causes, and only in the middle of the summer will have to use chillers.
The idea of creating such a repository Yakut paleontologists nurtured for many years.
Who discovered remains stored in freezers, - said Valery Plotnikov, senior fellow studying mammoths Academy of Sciences of Yakutia. Of course, they maintained the required temperature, but spending there job is simply impossible - no place. A new project, we made a few sectors, including special camera for dissection in cold conditions. There also will quarantine the cameras: carcasses of ancient animals can be dangerous bacteria and diseases, such as anthrax. We also plan to develop scientific tourism. That is, any scientist can come in and work with Cryo Yakut paleontologists. And for ordinary tourists we will show mammoths.
Unusual project is now under consideration. But he already drew attention to the Yakut government. Not surprisingly, since the mammoth fauna has long been a hallmark of the region. According to preliminary calculations, the construction of such cryostorages will cost about 50-100 million rubles.
