International Eurasia Press Fund granted ECOSOC Consultative Status
Baku, April 22 (AZERTAC). Baku-based International Eurasia Press Fund has been granted Consultative Status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
A ceremony on the occasion was organized in Baku by the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Azerbaijani President and UN Azerbaijan Mission.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, NGOs, and journalists.
Chairman of Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Azerbaijani President Azay Guliyev highlighted what had been done to develop civil society in the country.
He described the granting of ECOSOC Consultative Status to International Eurasia Press Fund as “a remarkable event in the socio-political life of Azerbaijan”.
UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Antonius Bernardus Broek praised the country`s cooperation with the United Nations and its institutions.
He said that granting ECOSOC Consultative Status to International Eurasia Press Fund would pave the way for building relations between UN institutions and NGOs in Azerbaijan.
Chairman of the Legal Policy and State Building Committee at the Azerbaijani Parliament Ali Huseynli highlighted the government`s attention to developing civil society and creating favorable conditions for NGOs in the country.
Senior employee at the Social and Economic Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani President`s Administration Vugar Salimov spoke of government-civil society relationship.
Chairman of International Eurasia Press Fund, member of the Board of Directors of the International Press Institute Umud Rahimoglu said the Fund was a transparent civil society organization.
The ceremony saw Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Azerbaijani President award Honorary Diploma to International Eurasia Press Fund on the occasion of its receiving ECOSOC Consultative Status.
