International Model UN Security Council Conference due in Azerbaijan
Baku, August 23 (AZERTAC). The Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan and UNDP are co-organizing the country’s first International Model UN Security Council Conference to be held in October within joint project on “Youth Participation in Decision Making and Policy Implementation”.
The four-day conference will bring together 45 university students and graduates of 15 states currently serving as members of the UN Security Council including Azerbaijan. Selected candidates will participate in a two-day pre-conference training workshop to be organised in collaboration with the UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI) that will feature former and current diplomats with rich experience in global security matters, followed by a simulated session of the UN Security Council on cyber terrorism.
As preparation for the conference, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Mr. Intigam Babayev that includes relevant staff of the Ministry and UNDP will be travelling to the UN New York Headquarters on 26-30 August, 2013. The purpose of the mission is to tap on international experience in management of the MUNs and attract high level international speakers to the event in Baku.
During the mission the delegation will hold bilateral meetings with the newly appointed UN Secretary General Youth Envoy, Mr. Ahmad Alhendawi, Under Secretary General for Communications and Public Information, Mr. Launsky Tieffenthal, UNDP Regional Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu and Director of Outreach Division of UNDPI, Mr. Maher Nasser. The delegation will also have an opportunity to attend the annual Model UN workshop organized by UNDPI in New York City.
