Iraq's population reaches nearly 45.5 million, census shows

Iraq’s population has reached nearly 45.5 million, Anadolu Agency reported citing the preliminary results of the country’s first census since 1987.
Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani said Monday that Iraq’s population has risen to 45,407,895 with 70.3% living in urban areas and 29.7% in rural areas.
"The number of households is 7,898,588, with an average household size of 5.3 individuals," he told a press conference in Baghdad.
The premier said that the number of males reached 22,784,062, making up 50.1% of the population, while the female population is 22,623,833, comprising 49.8%.
The census was conducted on Wednesday covering the entire country, including the Kurdish region in northern Iraq, the first such census in 37 years.
