JUSTICE MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS DELEGATION OF “TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL”
Having stopped on the democratic reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, the Minister has noted the successes reached in the field of economy, concrete work on building civil society, maintenance of human rights, freedom of speech and press. The Minister also informed on adoption in the country of the special law and the State Program in the field of combat against corruption, large-scale measures carried out in this sphere, as well as the work conducted in connection with improvement of activity of the Ministry. He spoke of modernization of judicial system according to instruction of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, maintenance of independence of the judges, the measures accepted for carrying out with this purpose of their election by the most democratic and transparent methods with participation of the international and local observers.
Miklosh Marshal told about work of the organization represented by him. He noted that he knows about progressive processes occurring in the country, especially, about the tremendous successes reached in the field of economy. The problem of corruption is the most typical for the states experiencing transition period, he said, and positively estimated efforts of Azerbaijan in this sphere and its active cooperation with influential international structures.
Having ascertained the role of courts in combat against such greater social harm as corruption, he has noted not only value of maintenance of the independence of judges, but also effective mechanisms on increase of their responsibility for the prevention of the facts of abuse.
Simultaneously, Mr. Marshal, considering the role of Azerbaijan in region, has initiated carrying out in following year in Baku the next regional conference of the organization “Transparency International”.
At meeting, also were exchanged views on the further expansion of mutual contacts, effective realization of information interchange and other questions, concerning cooperation.
Executive director of the organization “Transparency International-Azerbaijan” Rena Safaralieva, responsible persons of the Ministry of Justice and members of Judicial-Legal Council participated at the meeting.
