JUSTICE MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS ICRC COUNTRY REPRESENTATIVES
Noting that Azerbaijan attaches special attention to maintenance of human rights, in particular, rights of the convicted, as well as fruitful cooperation with the authoritative international organization in the mentioned sphere, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Minister informed on the work carried out in connection with improvement of penitentiary system in the country. He stressed importance of regularly visiting by ICRC representatives of the places of confinement, their recommendations and suggestions. A decade-long joint efforts in combat against tuberculosis among the prisoners have given positive results, he emphasized.
Expressing satisfaction with sincere cooperation and mutual understanding between ICRC and Justice Ministry of Republic, Ms. Wernts noted that during her activity she became witness of great changes in the penitentiary system of Azerbaijan. The conditions in prisons were cardinally improved, food and medical service notably perfected.
In meeting, the sides had comprehensive exchange of views on further expansion of effective cooperation.
