Kazakhstan’s Astana unveils monument to Mukhtar Auezov

A monument to outstanding Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov has been unveiled today in Astana with State Counselor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Karin and the writer's relative Diar Konayev participating in the ceremony, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Akorda press service.
Erlan Karin read out a congratulatory address on behalf of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"Mukhtar Auezov is a great writer who occupies a special place in the spiritual life of our nation. In his works, he masterfully reflected the worldview and lifestyle of our people. His works vividly demonstrate the richness of the Kazakh language and the deep roots of our unique civilization," reads the message.
Those attending the meeting were the intellectuals, workers of culture, members of the public council, deputies of the municipal maslikhat and Mukhtar Auezov’s relatives.
The monument, authored by sculptors Aidos Burkitbayev and Timur Yermukhametov, was installed on the square in front of the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh National Music and Drama Theatre.
