Kyrgyzstan's first wind farm starts generating power

Kyrgyzstan's first wind farm has begun generating its first megawatts of power, Kundus Kyrbasheva, head of the Green Stations Association, announced this on social media, according to Kabar.
"This marks a new stage in the country's wind energy development. It is especially important that Kyrgyz company Metrum TEK developed the project," she wrote. Construction of Kyrgyzstan's first wind farm in Balykchy, Issyk-Kul Region, is actively underway. The wind farm is being developed by the local company Metrum TEK in the Karakol Free Economic Zone, near Balykchy. The investor has contributed $100 million in the national energy sector.
The wind farm is designed to have a capacity of 100 megawatts and will be built in two phases:
- Phase I – 21 turbines, totaling 50 megawatts;
- Phase II – an additional 20 turbines, each rated at 2.5 megawatts.
The wind farm will also supply electricity not only to the Issyk-Kul region but also export it as part of the CASA-1000 project.
By 2030, global installed wind power capacity is expected to reach significant levels, and integration with energy storage systems will make wind energy more reliable and competitive.
