Kyrgyzstan starts treating brain tumor with radiation therapy

Kyrgyzstan has started to treat brain tumors with radiation therapy, according to Kabar.
Director of the National Center of Oncology and Hematology Nurbek Bukuev noted that if earlier benign tumors were surgically removed, now, depending on the case of morbidity, it is not necessary. The National Center of Oncology and Hematology started using radiation therapy to treat tumors for the first time.
“Earlier, all brain surgeries were done through surgery, after which patients underwent a course of chemotherapy. However, there were cases where metastases or new tumors appeared in the brain even after surgery. Now, if we fully master the new equipment, we will be able to completely eliminate tumors with radiation therapy,” Bukuev explained.
In 2021, the hospital received a radiation gas pedal. Previously, it was used to treat lung and stomach diseases. Igor Sadetsky, an Israeli specialist born in Kyrgyzstan, trained local doctors to use the machine to treat brain tumors.
“This method is used all over the world. It can be used to remove a tumor at an early stage without surgery, without affecting surrounding tissues. Today we performed radiation therapy for the first time on a patient with an auditory nerve tumor. After two procedures, the tumor stopped growing,” said Sadetsky.
