Libyan newspaper publishes article about Azerbaijan`s prominent state figure
August 23 (AZERTAC). The Libyan newspaper Al-Gad has published an article entitled “Alimardan Bay Topchubashov (1862-1934)” about Azerbaijan`s prominent state figure Alimardan Bay Topchubashov, who was the first Parliament Speaker of the country in the beginning of the last century.
The author says “Topchubashov was a prominent Azerbaijani politician, foreign minister and speaker of the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”.
“At the same time, Topchubashov was one of the founders of Ittifaq al-Muslimin (first political party of Russian Muslims)ç and organized its three conferences. He became the leader of Party`s Muslim faction at the Russian State Duma, the new Russian parliament,” the article says.
The newspaper highlights the prominent political figure`s inestimable merits before the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first successful attempt to establish a democratic and secular republic in the Muslim world.
“After the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed on May 28, 1918 Topchubashov became its ambassador to Georgia and the Ottoman Empire, and was sent to Istanbul. Then, he became minister of foreign affairs at the second Cabinet and was elected the head of the Parliament in absentia on December 7, 1918, thus, becoming the second head of state of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. He also headed the Azerbaijani Delegation at Versailles Conference held in Paris in 1919,” the author writes.
On February 25, 2013, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to mark Alimardan Bay Topchubashov`s 150th jubilee.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Academy of Science and other relevant governmental structures were instructed to prepare and implement a plan of actions on the 150th jubilee of prominent state figure Alimardan Bay Topchubashov who played great role in foundation, recognition by the foreign states as a subject of international relations and establishment of diplomatic relations of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which emerged as a nation`s historical achievement joining specifications of eastern culture with democratic values of the West.
