MEETING AT ELYSEE PALACE

Federal Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder arrived in Paris to participate at the third consultative meeting of the Ministers of France and Germany. He was received by President of France Jacques Chirac at the Elysee Palace, May 13. Then, they met with 20 ministers representing both countries.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the wide range of issues concerning the adoption of the European Constitution, situation in Iraq, and joint fight against international terrorism and tax project among companies of the enlarged Union.

Touching upon the Iraqi issue, the sidparties expressed their concern over the latest developments in the country, in particular, the abuse of Iraqi prisoners and brutal beheading of American soldier Nicholas Berg and held consultations on rebuilding of Iraq under the UN aegis.
