Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul said Turkish Armed Forces`s military operation against PKK terrorists in the North of Iraq on December 16 was essential and effective.

Gul added Turkey resolutely continues the fight against terror, and the Turkish soldiers will soon put an end to Iraqi people’s sufferings from terror.

He said “today, the whole world understands that Turkey is right in this fight. Therefore our military operation was welcomed by the USA, EU countries and other states”.

Meanwhile, US State Department`s Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey said PKK is one of the largest terrorist organizations and US supports actions aimed at stopping terrorist activity.

According to Casey, the Turkish and Iraqi governments must continue the close cooperation in this issue, and “target must be PKK, not innocent people”.
