MILLI MAJLIS CHAIRMAN MEETS UKRAINIAN OMBUDSPERSON
The Chairman Murtuz Alasgarov also dwelt on the Milli Majlis’ Interparliamentary links, hard consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh resulted in violation of thousands of people’s rights, the UN SC known resolutions, activities of the OSCE Minsk Group and fair position of Azerbaijan. The Speaker expressed hope that the visit by the Ukrainian ombudswoman would give an impetus to development of relations in the field of human rights and freedoms’ protection.
Commissioner on Human Rights of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada Nina Karpachova expressed gratitude to the Speaker for the kind meeting, and conveyed him greetings from the Chair,am of her county’s Parliament. She noted in particular that the agreement on strategic partnership signed between Ukraine and Azerbaijan had created the opportunity to expand cooperation between the ombudsman institutions. We should use this opportunity as effectively as possible to further develop our relations, Mrs. Karpachova said.
According to her, after the cooperation agreement signed between the commissioners, the rights of some 500 thousand Azerbaijanis living in Ukraine will be protected more effectively.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Ukrainian ombudswoman stressed that her country stands for peaceful resolution of the conflict in the framework of the international law and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Ombudsman institute of Ukraine will do its best to bring fair voice of Azerbaijan to the world, she said.
Afterwards, the parties have exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual inters.
