MILLI MAJLIS OFFICIALS MEET PARTICIPANTS OF NISA SUMMER SESSION
Senior officials of Azerbaijan`s Parliament (the Milli Majlis) met with participants of the Summer session of “NATO International School of Azerbaijan” (NISA), which is held within the NATO Week, Milli Majlis spokesman Akif Nasirov told AZERTAC reporter.
First Deputy Milli Majlis Chairman, head of the parliament`s standing commission on security and defense as well as head of Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO Ziyafat Asgarov stressed the importance of the fact the NATO Week is held in Azerbaijan.
He said Azerbaijan joined NATO Partnership for Peace Program in 1994.
Ziyafat Asgarov spoke of Azerbaijan’s National Security Conception as well as stressed the role his country plays in worldwide energy security and fight against international terror, organized crime and illegal drugs haul.
Speaking on energy projects Azerbaijan is involved in, Mr. Asgarov said the inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines as well as the implementation of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway project strengthen Azerbaijan`s international reputation.
Afterwards, deputy chairman of the parliament`s standing commission on security and defense Aydin Mirzazade addressed the participants on Azerbaijan`s role in energy security.
Touching upon Azerbaijan`s economic development, Mr. Mirzazade said a country is the leading country in the region.
He noted that Azerbaijan as an oil and gas producing country plays a key role in energy security.
