Minister Mustafayev: Italy is Azerbaijan`s major trade partner
Baku, March 14 (AZERTAC). “Italy is the main trade partner of Azerbaijan,” Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev has told President of Italy`s Friuli Venezia Giulia region Debora Serracchiani, who is leading a large delegation of businessmen to Baku.
“In 2013, the bilateral trade saw more than 7% growth,” he said.
“Our economic relations are developing. So far Azerbaijan and Italy have signed nearly 20 documents aimed at promoting and preserving investment, removing double taxation, and boosting cooperation between small and medium sized businesses.”
The Minister said: “There are more than 50 companies with Italian capital in Azerbaijan, and they specialize in trade, industry, communications, transportation, construction, banking sector and insurance. Regular business forums and meetings contribute to expanding our ties.”
The Minister said Azerbaijan was keen to broaden its cooperation with regions of Italy, and stressed the importance of exploring opportunities for mutual investment making.
Mr. Mustafayev provided an insight into Azerbaijan`s economic achievements. He said: “Thanks to favourable business and investment climate the volume of investment made in Azerbaijan`s economy is growing on a yearly basis. Azerbaijan has already become an investor country, and is the major actor in implementation of large-scaled regional energy and transport projects.”
Ms. Serracchiani emphasized the importance of benefiting from the existing potential for expanding the economic relations between Italy and Azerbaijan. She said Friuli Venezia Giulia region was interested in improving relations with Azerbaijan.
