MM SPEAKER RECEIVED WHO EUROPEAN REGIONAL DIRECTOR
During the conversation, Speaker Alasgarov noted that since re-gaining independence, Azerbaijan has been closely cooperating with all the international organizations including WHO, and that cooperation with the World Health Organization has been expanded after opening of its office in Baku. He expressed hope that Mr. Marc Danzon’s visit would launch a new stage in development of the relations.
The Chairman of the Milli Majlis informed the guest in detailed on the damage the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict had caused to the people’s health, their mental state, and on the problem as a whole.
Mr. Marc Danzon thanked the MM Speaker for the warm meeting, and expressed WHO’s satisfaction with the reforms being implemented in the Healthcare system in Azerbaijan. He pointed to considerable progress achieved in this sphere due to the progressive laws passed by the parliament. The European Regional Director expressed hope that the Milli Majlis would especially active in passing healthcare related laws, and Azerbaijan’s joining the international conventions.
Mr. Danzon asked Murtuz Alasgarov to pay particular attention to improvement of medical services to refugees and internally displaced people, promote passing new laws implying increase investments in healthcare and approval of the WHO’s new charter and “Tobacco Convention.”
During the meeting, the parties have also exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
