MOLDAVIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR VORONIN VISITS MILLI MAJLIS
President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin today visited the Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) in Baku. In front of the Parliament`s building, he was welcomed by Speaker Ogtay Asadov, first Deputy Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov, Deputy Speakers Bahar Muradova and Valeh Alasgarov, Head of the Parliament`s Apparat Safa Mirzayev and other officials.
The Moldavian leader first familiarized himself with the Parliament`s session hall and viewed the Heydar Aliyev Memorial Hall where he signed the Guest Book.
Afterwards, Vladimir Voronin had a meeting with Ogtay Asadov.
The Milli Majlis Chairman said long-standing relations between the two countries saw rapid development since Azerbaijan`s gaining its independence.
Ogtay Asadov stressed documents signed during reciprocal visits by the two countries` leaders created a legal foundation for further enhancing the bilateral cooperation.
He also noted the role of parliaments in boosting the two countries` relations.
Asadov also touched upon his country`s Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia, and said both Azerbaijan and Moldova are suffering from separatism.
He expressed gratitude to the Moldavian leader for supporting an Azerbaijan-initiated resolution at the UN General Assembly.
Vladimir Voronin said the development of Moldova and Azerbaijan, which are moving along the democratic path, gives the impetus to further enhance and deepen the bilateral relations.
He said Moldova will continue backing Azerbaijan`s fair stance on the international arena.
The Moldavian leader also praised the Azerbaijani diaspora`s activity in his country.
