Nakhchivan Open-2014 international chess festival wraps up
Nakhchivan, May 12 (AZERTAC). The International Chess Festival “Nakhchivan Open-2014” commemorating Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev’s 91st anniversary has today ended.
Azerbaijani Kamran Rzazade topped the C Tournament.
He was followed by Iranian Mani Jahedi, and Azerbaijan`s Siyavush Bagirov.
In the B Tournament, Azerbaijani Tabriz Idrisov ranked first, leaving behind teammates Ramil Javadov and Parvana Ismayilova who placed second and third respectively.
Russian grandmaster Boris Savchenko won the A Tournament, which involved high-rated chess players. Azerbaijani Eltaj Safarli finished the tournament as a runner up. Another Russian Alexander Simanov listed third.
Addressing the ceremony to award the winners, senior referee of the international tournament Faig Hasanov thanked Chairman of Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the “excellent conditions” created for holding the Nakhchivan Open-2014.
Winner of the A Tournament Savchenko thanked the organizers, and praised the tournament as one of the high-profile international tournaments.
Chairman of the Chess Federation of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vugar Safarov congratulated the winners.
The Swiss-system tournament brought together 101 chess players from Spain, Georgia, Turkey, India, Moldova, Latvia, Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan.
Top prizes in the Tournament “A” were: 10,000$ + cup/ 5000$/ 3000$/ 2000$/ 1500$/ 1200$/ 1000$ etc. There are 30 regular and many special prizes.
