NATO PA PRESIDENT MEETS WITH PARLIAMENT FIRST VICE- SPEAKER
Visiting Azerbaijan, President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly Jose Lello met Wednesday with First Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament, Chairman of Parliament’s Standing Commission on Security and Defense Issues Ziyafet Asgarov.
Asgarov said NATO PA-Azerbaijan relations are at high level and have been developed even more over recent years.
According Vice-Speaker, conduct of the NATO PA’s 68th Rose-Roth seminar in Baku proves it once more.
Asgarov said his country is successfully fulfilling its NATO commitments, noting that the organization’s Secretary General, as well as experts praised Azerbaijan’s achievements during their visits to the country.
He said these achievements considerably boosted social and political stability and economic progress in the country.
Vice-Speaker stated that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which still remains unsettled because of Armenia’s non-constructive stance, creates serious obstacle to development of both the country and the region. He stressed that this problem is also a serious threat to Europe.
NATO PA President said his organization praise economic and democratic development, as well as political stability in Azerbaijan.
Jose Lello said his visit and the 68th Rose-Roth seminar in Baku would further strengthen the current relations.
The 68th Rose-Roth seminar will discuss terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, separatism and other issues.
NATO PA President noted that Azerbaijan is playing important role in fighting terrorism.
Jose Lello hoped the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would be solved within the United Nations Security Council resolutions and international norms and principles.
They also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
