NATO PA VICE-PRESIDENT MEETS WITH AZERBAIJAN’S SPEAKER
Vice-President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and head of Romanian parliamentary delegation to the organization Mihail Lupoi has visited today the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan’s Parliament) where he met with Speaker Oqtay Asadov.
The Milli Majlis Chairman said Azerbaijan places particular emphasis on development of its relationships with international organizations including the NATO.
Oqtay Asadov said integration into European structures is one of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities.
The Azerbaijani Speaker noted his country is one of the active members of the NATO “Partnership for Peace” Program.
On Azerbaijan’s participation in a war against terrorism, Mr. Asadov said his country is involved in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries worldwide.
Oqtay Asadov also spoke of Azerbaijan-Romania relations, stressing mutual visits by the two countries’ leaders play key role in strengthening these ties.
The Speaker said he is satisfied with the level of the interparliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Romania.
The Milli Majlis Chairman informed the NATO PA Vice-President about Azerbaijan’s economic relations with other countries.
Oqtay Asadov also spoke of prospects for Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Romania on energy security.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Speaker stressed he believes NATO, including Romania, will continue supporting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
NATO PA Vice-President Mihail Lupoi said Romania attaches great importance to development of relations with Azerbaijan.
Mr. Lupoi welcomed Azerbaijan’s efforts towards enhancing ties with NATO.
Oqtay Asadov and Mihail Lupoi also discussed a wide range of other issues of mutual concern.
