NEWLY ELECTED COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS OF COE
Election of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights by the Parliamentary Assembly was held on October 5. Thomas Hammarberg, Sweden, was elected as a new Commissioner. Thomas Hammarberg, 63, is also the director of International Ulof Palme Center and has big experience in Protection of Human Rights. The Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe was first founded in 1999 and the first Commissioner was Alvaro Gil-Robles, Spain
