Nigar Arpadarai: Azerbaijan’s joining in international cybercrime mechanisms is ‘inevitable’
Baku, February 12, AZERTAC
“We live in an era of rapid technological advancement, and we are all now an integral part of the global network. This reality has also led to the transition of crime into the digital realm. Almost every day, we hear stories of people facing various forms of cybercrime. Cybercrime has no borders, and strengthening international cooperation in combating this challenge is a constant reality for all countries. In this regard, it is inevitable that Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies will join various international frameworks designed to fight cybercrime,” said Nigar Arpadarai, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations of the Milli Majlis.
The MP emphasized that Azerbaijan is already a participant in existing conventions on cybercrime. According to her, the new UN convention creates a universal global legal framework in this field and complements existing regional mechanisms.
Nigar Arpadarai noted that when joining this convention, Azerbaijan put forward certain reservations and statements to ensure that while benefiting effectively from the cooperation, it also serves to protect national interests and ensure state sovereignty.
The Deputy Chairman of the Committee added that ratifying the convention underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to its international obligations in combating cybercrime and will make a significant contribution to the improvement of legal frameworks in this direction.
