OVER 4.2 BILLION CUBIC METERS OF GAS PRODUCED FOR SIX MONTHS
Through the first six months of 2007, the state has received 4,294,615,000 cubic meters of natural gas from the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), the company announced. Of the amount, 2,395,176,000 cbm were produced by SOCAR and 1,360,686,000 by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC), while 538,753,000 cbm of the gas were extracted from Shah Deniz field. The yearly amount of natural gas to be produced in the phase 1 of the Shah Deniz project is estimated at 8 billion cbm.
In accordance with the existing agreements about 6 billion cubic meters of gas will be yearly supplied to Turkey, and 0.3 billion to Georgia, while 1.5 billion will meet Azerbaijan’s own needs for natural gas.
In the phase 2 of the project, natural gas production is forecast to make up 12 billion cbm per year.
By 2015, yearly natural gas production from Shah Deniz field is expected to reach approximately 20 billion cubic meters.
Shah Deniz field’s reserves constitute 200 billion cbm of natural gas and 240 million tons of gas condensate. Currently, 3 wells are being exploited in the field. With the fourth well put into operation, daily gas production will go up to 20 million cbm.
The total amount of gas produced from the field until July 1, 2007 is 700,444,551 cubic meters, of which 538,753,000 cbm went to Azerbaijan, 100,890,000 to Georgia, and 44,190,000 were used to meet the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline’s needs.
