PACE PRESIDENT MEETS AZERI PARLIAMENTARIANS
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Rene van der Linden met July 9 with members of the Azerbaijan delegation to the PACE and Milli Majlis standing commission on international and inter-parliamentary relations.
Samad Seyidov, head of the Azerbaijan delegation to the PACE and the commission said the official Baku is keen on expanding relations with the Council of Europe. He also said that the visit of the PACE President marks a new era in development of relations between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.
S. Seyidov added that nearly all problems, which had been discussed during the first visit of the PACE president to Baku, have already been solved.
Rene van der Linden praised activities of the Azerbaijan delegation in the PACE.
The PACE President said his visit aims to get familiarized with reforms being implemented in Azerbaijan and to discuss some questions.
Besides, the parties exchanged views on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. It was stressed that the so-called presidential elections to be held in Nagorno-Karabakh by the separatist regime harm the peaceful resolution of the conflict. The importance of imposing serious sanctions on Armenia supporting separatists was stressed during the talks.
