On the same day, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Bruno Haller visited the Alley of Martyrs to revere the memory of the heroes who had given their lives for independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He also laid flowers at their toms and the memorial “Eternal Fire.” The Milli Majlis representative to PACE Samad Seyidov accompanying Mr. Haller told him about the history of laying the Alley.

In his interview to AzerTAj reporter, the PACE Secretary General described the aim of his visit to Azerbaijan as deepening the existing PACE-Milli Majlis cooperation. He noted he is well acquainted with both former head of Azerbaijan’s delegation to PACE, PACE Vice-President and Bureau member Bureau member, now President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and other members of the delegation, and expressed hope for this relations would help in resolution of certain problems.

Mr. Bruno Haller further said the PACE wants develop relations between the countries of the region. Development and progress in the Caucasus, according to him, considerably depends on expanding of cooperation between them.

The guest especially stressed the invaluable role of outstanding person and political figure Heydar Aliyev’s role in development of Azerbaijan and the country’s joining the Council of Europe, as well.

Mr. Haller finally noted that the considerable progress achieved in Azerbaijan in the sphere of human rights protection and development of democracy must be ongoing through the deepening of cooperation.
