PACE to discuss Sarsang reservoir issue at one of its sessions
Paris, April 16 (AZERTAC). Member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Elkhan Suleymanov`s report on the Azerbaijani population’s being deprived of water in the frontline regions was discussed at the meeting of the bureau on April 11 despite serious obstacles put by the Armenian lobby. The proposal was accepted at the bureau meeting to forward the draft resolution to the committee on social affairs, health and sustainable development because of appointment of a reporter. This decision was approved shortly after the bureau meeting at the plenary session of the assembly.
The document on the Sarsang water reservoir was signed by 27 parliamentarians from 11 countries. The document says that 400 thousand Azerbaijanis living in the regions located in the frontline regions (Aghjabadi, Aghdam, Barda, Goranboy, Yevlakh and Tartar) and IDPs faced economic, environmental problems because the water shortage.
The document says the Assembly should address this issue very seriously.
