Pakistan: 5 killed 24 others injured as bus plunges into ravine

At least five people were killed and 24 others injured in Pakistan after a passenger bus met with an accident in Punjab province due to dense fog on Wednesday. According to rescue officials, the ill-fated bus plunged into a ravine while traveling from Rawalpindi to southern Punjab.
Reports said the bus fell into a deep ravine near Talagang city, about 100 kilometers from the capital Islamabad, amid poor visibility caused by dense fog. Initial reports indicated that 16 passengers sustained serious injuries in the accident. Rescue officials later confirmed the deaths of five passengers, including the bus driver.
Soon after the accident, rescue workers and local residents rushed to the scene and shifted the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.
According to rescue officials, the incident occurred early in the morning. As motorways were closed due to dense fog, the bus driver opted for an alternative route to reach the destination, where the accident occurred, resulting in multiple casualties. Provincial authorities in Punjab have closed several motorways as a precautionary measure due to traffic safety concerns caused by dense fog.
