Pakistan and Russia to deepen bilateral relations

Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy. This reaffirmation came during a meeting between the Chairman of Pakistan's Upper House of Parliament (Senate), Yousaf Raza Gilani, and the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, in Moscow.
Chairman Gilani reiterated Pakistan's commitment to peace and dialogue, emphasizing that Pakistan continues to advocate for diplomatic solutions to disputes, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Both sides highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, particularly in an era of rising global tensions.
According to a statement issued by the Senate Secretariat, the meeting underscored a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, expanding parliamentary engagement, and advancing a shared agenda focused on peace, trade, and regional stability.
Chairman Gilani conveyed Pakistan’s strong desire to elevate the existing partnership. He stated that Pakistan-Russia cooperation now holds global significance—not only for mutual prosperity but also for contributing to a more secure and stable region. He emphasized that such high-level exchanges are instrumental in reinforcing parliamentary diplomacy and laying the groundwork for deeper mutual understanding and collaboration.
He also extended warm congratulations to the Chairperson of the Federation Council and the Russian leadership on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.
Valentina Matvienko welcomed Yousaf Raza Gilani warmly, acknowledging his long-standing ties with Russia and his contributions to strengthening relations during his tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan.
