Pakistani newspaper writes about tolerance in Azerbaijan
Baku, April 10 (AZERTAC). Pakistani Daily Times newspaper has published an article focusing on model of tolerance in Azerbaijan.
Headlined “Azerbaijan tolerance against Armenian vandalism”, authors of the article Fuad Huseynzade and Rashad Badirli, who are members of Union of Diaspora Journalists, write that Azerbaijan is a place where there are mosques, churches and temples altogether and various religious ranks are settled without meeting any discrimination.
The article notes that when the President of the Council of Europe and Europeans were shown a mosque, a church and a temple in 150 meters` distance from each other in Guba, they were astonished. It says according to the quality of tolerance, the Azerbaijani people have got differed not only in the East but also all over the world.
The unique experience of Azerbaijan in the field of interreligious dialogue has always been highly appreciated by politicians, diplomats and officials of international organizations. The historical visit of the former leader of home-catholic cathedral II Ioann Powel to Azerbaijan in May 2002 is the best example to it. He praised the tradition of tolerance in Azerbaijan. It is a historical fact that Christians prosecuted by the government of Rome settled in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani government takes measures to restore monuments, which belong not only to Islam but also all other religions.
The article says: “Armenia`s aggressive policy, occupying 20 percent lands of Azerbaijan, as a result over one million people living as refugees and IDPs and destroying historical-cultural monuments cause serious problems in creating peace and stability in the whole region strengthening of traditions of tolerance and forming interreligious cooperation.”
The article stresses that today religious monuments of a state which occupied a part of Azerbaijan`s territories, are under protection. Armenian Grigor Lusavorich church in Baku is under state protection. Despite the fact that Armenians carry out vandalism policy against Azerbaijan monuments, Azerbaijani government protects the Armenian monuments by restoring them.
