Pakistani Think Tank Institute hosts conference on climate change ahead of COP29

A well known Pakistani Think Tank, the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) on Thursday hosted a high level conference and panel discussion in Capital Islamabad on climate change ahead of COP29. The speakers emphasized on urgent need to cope and combat the intensifying climate change crisis on the international level including the efforts in Pakistan.
They also highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change crisis while talking about the recent floods including the super floods of 2022 which devastated many parts of the country. They also urged for the need to forge policies and their early implementation to tackle the climate crisis in the country.
Speakers said that COP29 to be held in Baku, in the Republic of Azerbaijan next month will be helpful in tackling the climate change at the global level as Azerbaijan is taking a leading role on this vital issue by engaging the stakeholders. They also urged for climate resilience and adaptation to address this important issue.
While speaking on the occasion former Pakistani Climate Change Minister Senator Sherry Rehman said that we must put all possible resources for adaptation and should work with United Nations and multilateral agencies to address the climate issue. She also urged the need to setup new targets for adaptation and mitigation.
