PAKISTAN’S QUAKE TOLL EXCEEDS 40,000
The available reports say alone in the Pakistani part of Kashmir, the quake claimed 30,000 lives, and another 10,000 in the north-western border province.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Monday the tremors had not caused serious damage to industrial facilities.
Planes from various countries with rescue teams and relief supplies have been landing at the Islamabad airport.
The territory of this small self-proclaimed state which is administered by Pakistan, found itself on Saturday in the epicenter of a 7.6-magnitude quake.
Muzaffarabad is located 96 kilometers from the Pakistani capital but the journey there is likely to take at least five or six hours, because of speed limits on highland roads damaged by the quake.
