Participants of international seminar meet Azerbaijan`s CEC chairman
Baku, December 18 (AZERTAC). Participants of the international seminar “Development of electoral legislation in the CIS: ways to improve and apply in practice”" have met Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov.
At the meeting, Panahov noted that Azerbaijan improved legislative framework that was adopted in 2003 and the renewed Election Code allows free expression of the voters.
According to the CEC Chairman, “the President has taken a number of exceptional steps to strengthen the legal framework for elections and improvement of electoral practices”.
Speaking about innovations at the presidential elections in October 2013, Panahov noted the increase of polling stations where up to 1,000 webcams were installed, as well as the establishment of ramps for people in wheelchairs at approximately 1,200 polling stations. He also said that for the first time in the world, the elections were observed through mobile phones.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA CIS) Alexey Sergeev said the election practice gained in Azerbaijan should be an example for other countries.
