PENITENTIARY SERVICE OF THE JUSTICE MINISTRY IMPLEMENTS PRESIDENTIAL DECREE ON PARDON
Penitentiary Service of the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan Republic provided execution of the Presidential Decree from December 28, 2007 "On the pardon of some convicts". Among the pardoned 119 people, 117 are the persons who served term in penitentiaries. 115 convicts serving term in 30 establishments of Penitentiary Service have been completely freed from the remnant term, and 2 persons received decrease in term of serving of punishment half.
Execution of the Pardon Decree has been carried out on December 29 with participation of high officers of the Ministry of Justice, members of Public Committee comprising representatives of management of the Penitentiary Service, human rights organizations, and also representatives of the non-governmental and state organizations, including the State Committee on Problems of Family, Women and Children, mass media.
Groups in composition of responsible officers of the Ministry of Justice and Penitentiary Service have visited places of confinement and have provided execution of the Decree of the President. The persons released by the Decree on pardon and their relatives highly estimated this humane step of the head of state, expressed deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev.
