Photobiennale 2014 to open in Moscow
Baku, February 18 (AZERTAC). Every two years photography lovers gather in Russian capital for one of the biggest events in the art world - Moscow Photobiennale. This year, the festival organized by the Multimedia Art Museum opens on February 19th with a major exhibition celebrating Russian-British cross-culture year “Another London”.
The works of such star photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dora Maar, Wolfgang Suschitzky, Martine Franck, Rene Groebli, Ernst Haas and many others from London`s Tate gallery collection will give the viewers a unique opportunity to take a look at the life of the UK capital - its streets, monuments, celebrities and ordinary citizens from 1930s through to 1970s. For those who prefer fashion photography Multimedia Art Museum will offers another exclusive show - retrospective of one of the most influential artists in the industry Erwin Blumenfeld.
Bringing together over 300 works and documents dating from the late 1910s to the 1960s, this exhibition encompasses the various media explored by the artist throughout his career: drawing, photography, montage, and collage. The life and work of Erwin Blumenfeld provides an impressive record of the sociopolitical context of artistic development between the two World Wars, while highlighting the individual consequences of emigration.
Another exhibition to be held at Moscow Photobiennale is Garry`s Winogrand`s famous series “Women Are Beautiful”. Yet another example of the free and talented women of the era was Jessica Lange, whose famous works you can also see at the Multimedia Art Museum from 12th of March.
The exhibition “Unseen” will bring together 141 photographs taken over the last 20 years and arranged into two series: “Things I see” and “Mexican Suites”. The Photobiennale will last until May 25 and will be held at six places in Moscow: the Multimedia Art Museum, «Manej» and «Noviy Manej», the Cultural Foundation «Ekaterina», Museum of Contemporary Art in Ermolaevsky Lane and Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery.
