Political scientist: Selective targeting of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg is completely unacceptable – COMMENTARY
Baku, June 29, AZERTAC
“The operation conducted against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, Russia, involving special forces, is highly suspicious and raises serious concerns. The recent events are unacceptable,” said political scientist Ilyas Huseynov in an interview with AZERTAC.
Recalling the strong and resolute statement issued by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the incidents, Huseynov emphasized that the ministry demanded a thorough investigation into all aspects of the case and an explanation to the Azerbaijani side.
“I believe the forces behind this incident will be identified. If it is confirmed that Azerbaijanis were deliberately targeted, this could negatively impact relations between Baku and Moscow. In this regard, the Kremlin must take appropriate steps to foster closer ties and resolve tensions. Efforts must be made to prevent such incidents from recurring in bilateral relations. Furthermore, the full and detailed circumstances of this event must be uncovered. The selective approach and direct targeting of Azerbaijanis are completely unacceptable. Such actions severely damage relations, and their consequences are difficult to mitigate,” he added.
