PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS INFORMAL SUMMIT OF CIS HEADS OF STATE
The informal summit of the heads of CIS member-states took place June 10 at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg.
Opening the event President of Russia Vladimir Putin noted it coincided with the 11th St. Petersburg international economic forum, and called on the CIS leaders to also focus on the processes of economic integration within the post-soviet space.
Presiding over CIS Kazakh leader Nursultan Nazarbayev thanked the Russian President for the hospitality and excellent organization of the gathering. He pointed out that cooperation within CIS is an important element of foreign policies of its member-states. Touching upon the issues of reforming the organization and making the work of its executive bodies more effective, Nazarbayev announced that the interstate working group at Deputy Foreign Ministers level had prepared the draft conception of further development of the Commonwealth.
Also at the summit, the CIS leaders have heard a report by Chairman of the organization’s executive committee Vladimir Rushaylo.
On the same day, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave interview to the Russian TV channel “Vesti”.
