PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS VICTORY DAY CEREMONY IN BAKU
On May 9, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended in Baku a solemn ceremony to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the victory
over fascism in the World War II. At the tomb of Major-General Hazi Aslanov, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, he was warmly welcomed by war veterans and other representatives of the public.

The President also sincerely greeted family members and relatives of General Hazi Aslanov and congratulated them on the victory day. Azerbaijan played a great role in the USSR’s victory over fascism sending 600,000 to the war, with about half of them died in battles. Over 120 citizens of Azerbaijan were given a title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and over 170,000 were awarded various orders and medals. The Azerbaijani divisions passed the ways from Caucasus to Berlin, hundreds of our compatriots participated in guerilla welfare against Nazis.
