PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR STATE FLAG SQUARE

The President met with state and government officials, and then viewed the square`s project.
Defense Minister Safar Abiyev informed the President that the flag will be visible from different places of the capital.
According to the Minister, construction work is planned to end next May, and the square will be officially inaugurated on May 28, the Republic Day.
The square`s total area will be 20,000 square meters.
The President handled the material that the flag will be made from.
He said: “We are creating the State flag square in Azerbaijan. I signed a relevant decree last month. Of course, we considered various places before choosing this one. This place is very beautiful... At the same time, it is visible from most places of the city. The flag`s height will be 150 meters, and Azerbaijan`s state symbol will be fluttering in Baku. This is our independence, this is our freedom. We have state flags in Baku and other cities and regions. And this is my instruction. But this flag sharply differs from others. This is because it is huge. The flag measures 75 meters by 30 meters. It is also very heavy, as the flag alone weights 350 kg. It also differs because it will be raised in the State flag square... This will be a very difficult job. To install such a huge flag is technically very difficult and requires great professionalism. And we have this, we have equipment, we have professionalism. I am confident that our flag, our national symbol will bring us to Azerbaijan`s successful future”.
Afterwards, the foundation stone laying ceremony began.
President Ilham Aliyev inspected a guard of honor.
He then put a time capsule into the foundation and covered it with liquid concrete officially starting the construction work.
The President stressed the importance of the square, saying it will attract tourists and host various events.
