Speaking at the first session “The Balkans and Black Sea region as litmus paper for Europe” in the frame of the International Bertelsmann Forum - 2006 in Berlin, President of Romania Traian Basescu also touched the ongoing processes on Balkans and Black Sea region, the Kosovo problem and the conflicts in the territory of former soviet space. At his words, proclamation by Kosovo its independence may provoke the Serb nationalists and creates dangerous precedent for Nagorno Karbakh, Transdnestr, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The Romanian President also emphasized that the Black Sea and Caspian regions could be reliable alternative energy supplier. This will enable to eliminate Europe’s dependence on Russian gas.
