RECONSTRUCTION OF GARADAG UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE UNDERWAY
Reconstruction of the Garadag underground gas storage to increase its capacity from 400-600 m to 2.3 b cubic meters of gas is in progress, a source at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan told AZERTAC.
Funded from the company’s own resources, the reconstruction activities will take two years, the source added.
The Garadag underground gas storage was created on the base of the exhausted holes in the Garadag field, which had produced 20 b cubic meters of the “blue fuel” over 50 years from 1935 to 1985.
Garadag and Galmas, the two underground gas storages now functioning in Azerbaijan, were first filled with 1 b cubic meters of winter gas reserves in 2006. Reportedly, the volume of gas is planned at 1.4 b cubic meters this year.
