REGIONAL COMMISSION TO HOLD MEETING
The new draft law “on names of geographical objects” was discussed in the meeting of the Parliament’s permanent commission on regional issues, on May 4.
Chairman of the commission, Arif Rahimzadeh, said that this law would define the legal bases of the activities aimed at naming, renaming, changing, specification, using, registration and preservation of names of geographical objects in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Fazail Ibrahimli, member of the commission, gave detailed information about the draft law. According to his words, the draft has been developed corresponding to the international norms: “There is an appropriate resolution of the United Nations. As known, all Azerbaijani names in the territory of Armenia have been changed and this tendency exists as well as in Georgia. After the adoption of the law, those toponymycs will be recognized by the UNO and changes to the Azerbaijani names will be used only in the territory of those countries.”
