SOCAR ‘not in talks’ to buy Gazprom gas

President of Azerbaijan`s state oil firm (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev has said the company is not conducting any talks with Russian giant Gazprom on gas purchases.

"We needed technical gas to inject into reservoirs. We will buy gas if they agree to sell it under our terms. Generally speaking, buying gas is not really important for us,” he told reporters.

Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Makhachkala Alexander Astanin recently said his company was in talks with SOCAR regarding the annual supply of 3-5 billion cubic meters of gas to Azerbaijan.
