Sport Climbing World Cup kicks off in Baku
Baku, May 3 (AZERTAC). The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup has kicked off in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.
Nearly 150 athletes from 22 countries will compete in the two day tournament that is held in Azerbaiajn for the second time.
The world cup is co-organized by Azerbaijan Air and Extreme Sports Federation and IFSC.
Speaking to the opening ceremony Azerbaijani youth and sport minister Azad Rahimov said the country already built an image of a sports nation on the international scene.
President of Azerbaijan Air and Extreme Sports Federation Huseyngulu Baghirov highlighted the Azerbaijani government`s attention to developing sports in the country.
IFSC`s representative has praised the efforts of Azerbaijan Air and Extreme Sports Federation to popularize sports climbing in the country.
The world cup will feature competition in bouldering and speed disciplines.
As part of preparations for the world cup Turkish referees were invited to Azerbaijan to hold classes for local referees and athletes, and about 40 people were certified to officiate at the tournament.
