STATE DUMA RATIFIED AGREEMENT ON CONVENTIONAL ARMED FORCES IN EUROPE
The Agreement envisions limit on quartering of conventional forces in the territory of member-countries of the Agreement. Currently, about 30 European countries have ratified the ACFE. The quartering region is the land area of the member-state.
Presenting the document was the chairman of the international affairs committee of State Duma Konstantin Kosachev, who said that ACFE would promote improvement of stability in the field of conventional armed forces in Europe and weaken negative sequences for security of Russia in connection with expansion of the NATO.
Defense minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov also said his proposal related to ratification of the said Agreement, stating that “ratification of the adapted ACFE by all the participants and coming into effect meets national interests of Russia, is one of the most important contract-legal tools enabling strengthening safety of the country with non-military methods”.
