Suspending Russia as G20 member would contradict multilateralism — Borrell

The EU’s diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday it would be "quite contradictory" to suspend Russia’s membership of the G20, according to the TASS.
Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue international conference in New Delhi, he said, "You cannot say that you want to push for multilateralism and then ask for Russia to go out of the G20. It’s quite contradictory, no?" This was how Borrell replied to a reporter who asked "why can’t you suspend Russia as a member of the G20 and then move forward and continue solving the current problems of the world."
Borrel said it was necessary to keep ways of talking or "at least listening to the others."
He described the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting as "a strong improvement" with respect to the G20 meeting at Bali, because at Bali Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov "came, talked and left. He did not stay to hear the others. At least, this time, he stayed and he listened."
"It’s important that can say whatever we think and to receive the answer from the other side. We have to keep this possibility," Borrell concluded.
